What is the Caravan Project?

A caravan project is a project drawn by an authorized vehicle project engineer that meets the necessary conditions for a motor vehicle (such as a bus or minibus) to be able to travel on highways and obtain caravan status.

How to Make a Caravan Project? 

In order to make a caravan project, the interior of the vehicle must be completed. After the caravan equipment is fixed and secured, the project is drawn by authorized engineers. The project is submitted to TSE and approved after being checked. Then TÜVTÜRK vehicle modification inspection is carried out and license procedures are completed.

How many people can travel in a motorhome?

• Class M: Motor vehicles with at least four wheels and used for passenger transportation.
• Class M1: A motor vehicle used for passenger transportation with a maximum of 9 seats including the driver.
• Class M2: A motor vehicle used for passenger transportation, with more than 9 seats including the driver and a maximum weight not exceeding 5 tons.
• Class M3: A motor vehicle used for passenger transportation, with more than 9 seats including the driver and with a maximum weight exceeding 5 tons.

What does a caravan inspection look for?

How to Operate a Caravan License? 

Apply to the notary for registration procedures and register the vehicle. The vehicle is registered by applying to the Ministry of Finance with the vehicle license and projects.

Motorhome Requirements 

The vehicle should have a bed, table, cooking area and storage/storage areas. This equipment should be fixed to the seating area and the table should be easily removable. A stove is needed for cooking and should be fixed.

Cost of Caravan Projects

As of January 01, 2024, the caravan project TSE vehicle inspection fee is 2952.89 TL. After the caravan inspection, the license registration fee at the notary is 1,140 TL. Motorhome License 

Class B driver’s license is sufficient for vehicles with a loaded weight not exceeding 3500 KG. In the caravan inspection, many factors such as electrical installation, brake system, condition of the internal structure are checked.

Caravan Types

Caravans are divided into towable caravans and motorhomes. While towed caravans are preferred for long stays or in areas with zoning bans, motorhomes are self-propelled vehicles and the interior layout is designed to be suitable for living.
In Turkey, towed caravans are divided into two classes: those weighing less than 750 kilograms and those weighing more than 750 kilograms. The first group of caravans can be used on highways without a license, while the second group of caravans can be used on highways with a license.
